CONTENTS:
This data sheet has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Chemicals (Hazards, Information and Packaging) Regulations (CHIP) and the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP).
Known Misuses/Abuses
None known. 1 . Identification of the Substance / Preparation, and of the Company / Undertaking. Product : K3 Company: Address : Telephone: Emergency Telephone: 2. Composition / Information on Ingredients Bitumen, water and emulsifiers. The emulsion may contain polymers
3.
Hazard Identification K3 emulsions are NOT classified as dangerous for supply or conveyance. 4. First Aid Measures Inhalation : Minor inhalation - NOT likely to be harmful. Major inhalation (unlikely) - seek medical advice. Skin : If skin contact does occur, the product should be removed as soon as possible using suitable cleanser and washing with soap and water. Eyes : Irrigate thoroughly with cold water and seek medical advice. Ingestion : (Unlikely) - seek medical advice. 5. Fire-Fighting Measures Bitumen Emulsion will not burn under normal circumstances. 6. Accidental Release Measures If no risk is present, shut off leak. Contain and absorb with sand or soil until set solid, then dispose of as in paragraph 13.
7.
Handling and Storage Handling : Mechanical handling of palletised products reduces the hazards of manual lifting. Where manual lifting is unavoidable, use correct kinetic lifting techniques. When pumping to / from BULK containers, take proper safeguards against pressure build-up. Check hoses and connections for serviceability. Excessive pumping may damage the product. Storage : Protect from frost. Chock drums to prevent rolling. Bulk tanks should be structurally sound and secure from accidental release. 8. Exposure Controls / Personal Protection Exposure Limit Values There is NO occupational exposure limit in EH40. Recommended Protective Clothing : Wear suitable gloves (to avoid injury during drum handling and skin contact when applying), overalls, protective footwear, eye protection. Use of barrier cream before work will assist subsequent cleansing.
9.
Physical and Chemical Properties
10. Stability and Reactivity Conditions to avoid : To avoid freezing of emulsion water do NOT allow temperature to fall below 2°C. Materials to avoid : Alkalines and Anionic emulsions. Decomposition Products : NONE hazardous bitumen and water. Emulsion will not burn. Mechanical Handling : Excessive pumping can lead to the breaking of an emulsion. 11. Toxicological Information Acute Health Hazards and Advice Exposure to K3 Bitumen Emulsions is NOT hazardous but skin contact should be avoided. Can be irritating to eyes. 12. Ecological Information Minimum hazard but high concentrations of emulsions may harm fish (by bitumen blocking gills). 13. Disposal Considerations Dispose as a controlled waste in accordance with local bye-laws and regulations. 14. Transport Information Not classified as a dangerous substance for conveyance. 15. Regulatory Information Not classified as dangerous for supply. 16. Other Information The references set out below give further information on specific aspects.
