John is a chartered engineer and human resources management consultant with hands-on experience of change management in senior positions in industry. He has worked extensively in the private and public sectors both in the UK and abroad.
Early experience was gained in the West Country in the design and construction of major roads and the M5 motorway.  John eventually widened that experience by moving into the management of road maintenance with highway authorities in Somerset and West Sussex.  His public sector career was rounded with 6 years with the Government of Bermuda where he gained further management and political experience as Roads Engineer reporting to the Director of Public Works.  Here he managed a large direct labour force and he undertook a range of major projects including importing annual thin-film slurry surfacing, using contractors from the United States eastern seaboard.
On his return to the UK John joined Prismo Limited as Contracts Manager.  Prismo was then a Redland owned specialist contractor and material manufacturer that operated throughout Britain and Western Europe.  He led the development of the road contracting business including the successful introduction of Ralumac, a brand new thick-film slurry surfacing technique, to the UK. Ultimately in 1990 he was appointed as Contracts Director at Prismo.
When Colas Ltd was formed in 1992 John began as the Commercial & Personnel Director during a period when major organisational change was successfully planned and driven through.  He helped plan and implement a significant downsizing programme that involved wide-scale redundancies and an associated outplacement support programme.  He became Surface Treatments Director managing the specialist road and airfield contracting activities at Colas.  During this period John was Chairman of the Slurry Surfacing Contractors Association; a founder member of the High Friction Surface Association; part of the Highways Authorities Product Approval Scheme Specialist Group for High Friction Surfacing and a representative on the Road Surface Dressing Association.
John started his own consultancy firm September Associates in the autumn of 2004
